Background
The Ministry of Defence is seeking to release this large 14 hectare site adjacent to Feltham Town Centre as part of a programme for release of MOD sites across the country for alternative uses. Due to the site’s substantial size and the significant opportunity to deliver housing growth and other community benefits, it is considered important to produce a planning brief to provide direction for potential developers regarding the Council’s expectations and requirements relative to its redevelopment.
Consultation
The draft Planning Brief underwent a 6 week period of public consultation between 5 April 2017 and 17 May 2017. The detailed comments and proposed response to comments are included in the Consultation Statement below.
Summary
The Brief sets out planning, design and development guidance on the opportunities the site represents, but also the planning constraints and responsibilities of working with the historic environment. It also highlights the opportunities it provides for the delivery of new homes, community facilities and employment space that supports small to medium enterprises together with locally needed retail.
Adoption
Hounslow Council formally adopted its Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for the MOD site on 8 August 2017. The Planning Brief, a formal supplementary planning document, will be a material planning consideration in the determination of future planning applications.
