If you would like to contact social services because you are struggling with everyday tasks or no longer feel safe at home (perhaps because of age or a disability) the team you first speak to should be the First Contact team.
First Contact can also help if you look after someone as their carer and are having difficulties managing.
We are a team of social workers, occupational therapists and social care advisors. When you call us we will ask you about the problems you are experiencing, your situation, what help you think you might need to regain your independence and to feel safe at home.
At First Contact, these are the main courses of action we will take following an assessment of your needs:
- We will provide you with information and advice
- We may pause and put temporary measures in place to stop your situation getting worse
- We may draw up a support plan for a longer term solution and refer you to other services if necessary
- We will help and guide you through the assessment process
