At London Progression Collaboration (LPC) we support apprentices in London of all ages into good work. We have a particular focus on 16 – 24 year olds and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
We've been working with Hounslow Council since October 2020 with levy transfers to smaller businesses that enable apprenticeship starts.
We engage with small to medium sized business (SMEs) through local authorities, where they're often helping them recruit locally.
In Hounslow alone, we’ve supported 33 apprentices at 10 different businesses across five sectors: hospitality, retail, construction, early years and health and social care with a total of £207,000 of levy transferred.
In Hounslow we've also worked with the council to use their unspent levy to reinvest in businesses and residents in the borough.
It's interesting how some sectors are looking for more apprenticeships. Construction and the care sector have always taken them on but we’re seeing more uptake in the digital and tech space.
And as we explore this further, we're coming across quite a few start-ups that need this kind of hands-on support.
So, we're becoming quite diverse in what audiences we reach out to with different levels of support - construction, hospitality, early years, tech start-ups, and more, the challenge is very different .
The landscape of skills and the world of work are constantly changing and we're learning as we go along. Our support for apprentices is becoming more bespoke so we're able to create better quality of work placements into the future.
We work with just over a third of the local authorities in London, as well as over 60 other large organisations who pledge their unspent levy to help London’s SMEs.
We help put the pieces of the puzzle together, bringing everyone together within the community to help create these opportunities.
