Food waste recycling
We collect a 240L bin every week. When we collect, we swap the bin with a clean one.
If you wish, you can have smaller food waste bins inside the school. For example, in the lunch hall and staff room. You can then empty these caddies into the larger bin in the bin store.
If you do not currently have a food waste collection and are interested in having one, please email customerservices@hounslow.gov.uk with:
- the school name
- a contact name
- a contact email address
Garden waste collections
Schools can subscribe for garden waste collections in a similar way to Hounslow residents.
You can find out more information about the service on the garden waste subscription webpage.
However, instead of subscribing online, you should either:
- call 020 8583 5555
- email customerservices@hounslow.gov.uk

Salvation Army
Salvation Army has a dedicated website for schools called Recycle with Michael. There is information on how to sign up as well as information and materials to be used in classrooms and assemblies to support education on the importance of recycling.
How it works:
- You sign up with Salvation Army.
- Salvation Army sends you collection bags. You organise a donation day when pupils and staff bring in bags filled with their unwanted clothing and shoes.
- Salvation Army picks up the donations.
- You find out how much you have donated and get a certificate to display at your school.
- The money raised from the sale of your donations is split equally between the Salvation Army and your school.
They also can provide downloadable support materials, including posters, to promote this service.
TRAID
TRAID offers collection schemes to suit a school's needs. This might mean installing a textile bank at the school, arranging a regular collection, or arranging a bulk collection on a specific date and time. You can email education@traid.org.uk to discuss your requirements.
They also provide an educational toolkit that teachers can use to promote sustainability.
