Volunteer Week 2024

Blog: Chiswick House and Gardens Volunteers

Alexis

Volunteering here is a multi-faceted activity in the sense that when you start you are not too sure what to expect. And after a month or so, you realise just how beneficial it is and what you get out of it. First you feel your contribution is helping the community as it is easy to measure your output. Then it is also fun to work with a team of like-minded and humble individuals who are happy to share their experience and skills. You learn a lot. You observe the whole cycle of nature unfolding in front of you and how it spans the seasons. And all the time, you don’t have the pressure associated with the responsibilities of a daily corporate job.

I’m full of praise for this volunteering adventure whilst also conscious that its success is due to a wonderful entourage, staff, and of course, the garden itself!

I joined the kitchen garden team at Chiswick House and Gardens last Summer. I am thrilled to be part of this team and help them achieve their goal of donating produce and helping to fund local community groups. I have learnt so much and enjoy my time at this oasis in West London.

The fresh air, the work and the people were all things we enjoyed about the day. We found so much satisfaction in completing the tasks with the gardeners and felt a real sense of achievement at the end of the day. We rarely have the opportunity to collaborate and socialise out-of-office with colleagues, and being able to do so in such a beautiful setting is something rather special.
