Reducing your transport emissions
Walking, cycling and the use of public transport are the most carbon effective and sustainable transport options. Where a vehicle is required, the council supports the transition to electric vehicles to reduce both air pollution and carbon emissions.
However, while electric vehicles are much cleaner than internal combustion engine vehicles, they still produce particulate air pollution from the wear of tyres and brakes.
The council therefore encourages walking, cycling and public transport as the preferred modes of travel, especially as this can have other benefits such as improving health.
