You can easily implement the following measures without major disruption or the need for permission.  Visit the Energy Saving Trust website for more information on these and other tips on using less energy.

The following behavioural changes can help you to reduce energy use – and bills – around the home at little or no upfront cost:

  • Switch off appliances when you aren't using them
  • Turn your central heating thermostat down a couple of degrees
  • Heating water is one of the most energy-intensive activities in our homes.  Save energy by having shorter showers, putting a lid on the pan when cooking, and not overfilling the kettle
  • Use your Smart Meter to identify which appliances are using the most energy.  Contact your energy company if you don’t already have a smart meter installed
  • Switch to a 100% green ener
  • GY tariff or green energy provider – it may not cost you more than a standard tariff. London Power, founded by the Mayor of London, offers competitive green energy tariffs.
