Cycleway 9: works west of Kew Bridge junction from 17 March

Transport for London started working at Kew Bridge junction in December 2019 and, from 17 March will begin works on the London Borough of Hounslow’s section of Kew Bridge Road, between Kew Bridge and the Jet Petrol Station. These works are scheduled to be completed by mid-July, with works across the wider Kew Bridge junction to be completed by October 2020.

Planned works
The works include changes to kerb lines, construction of cycle tracks, resurfacing of footways and carriageways, and the introduction of a new signalised crossing.  To minimise the overall impact of construction on residents, businesses and road users, TfL will carry out the work in carefully coordinated phases:

  • Mid-March to mid-April 2020 - Northern side of the A315, between the Express Tavern pub and Green Dragon Lane
  • Mid-April to early-May 2020 - Switchover of the cycle track from the northern side to the southern side of the A315 just east of the junction with Thames Row, including construction of a new signalised crossing
  • Late-April to mid-May 2020 - Southern side of the A315 between Costa and the junction with Green Dragon Lane
  • Early to late May 2020 - Northern side of the A315 between the switchover of the cycle track (opposite Thames Row) and the Jet Petrol Station
  • Late-May to early-July 2020 - Southern side, between Thames Row and Green Dragon Lane

Work will take place from 08:00 to 17:00 on weekdays, 08:00 to 16:30 on Saturdays, and 09:00 to 16:00 on Sundays. No noisy work will take place after 23:00 on any day. Hounslow Council has agreed to these working hours.  Every effort will be made to finish the works on time, although poor weather conditions may mean that they need to reschedule at short notice.

How these works may affect you

Approaches to Kew Bridge junction will be operating with lane closures throughout these works. You should expect delays on the A406 Gunnersbury Avenue (onto Chiswick High Road), the A205 Chiswick High Road, eastbound on the A315 Kew Bridge Road and on Kew Bridge. TfL is doing all it can to keep traffic moving by proactively managing traffic signal timings in the area.

If possible, you should:

  • Cycle or travel by Tube, Overground, or National Rail services
  • If driving, allow more time to complete your journey
  • Travel outside the morning and evening peak times

Buses

Bus routes in the area will operate as normal but may experience delays due to the lane reductions in place. Bus stops Kew Bridge Station (Stop X) and Kew Bridge National Rail Station (Stop W) will be closed during these works. A temporary stop will be placed to the west of Stop W. Visit tfl.gov.uk/bus/status for live updates.

Walking

Footpaths and pedestrian crossings will remain open. Any temporary closures or diversions will be clearly signed.

Deliveries

Delivery and servicing trips may be affected by delays associated with the lane closures. If you are a local business, consider retiming your deliveries to outside peak periods, and streamlining your suppliers. More information and advice is available at tfl.gov.uk/freight
