Phase 3b
Construction of phase 3b of Cycleway 9 (C9) was completed in February 2023. Phase 3b refers to the section of C9 on Chiswick High Road between the junction with Chiswick Lane up to the turning on Heathfield Terrace.
The improvements made between Chiswick Lane and Heathfield Terrace responded to feedback from the local community and monitoring we have undertaken since the original temporary scheme was constructed in December 2020. Feedback highlighted the need for small-scale improvements on this section of C9, compared to the bigger changes completed between Chiswick Lane and Goldhawk Road. This means that much of the existing temporary scheme, including the highway layout and materials, have remained in place. Where changes were proposed, such as provision of entry treatments at side roads, road resurfacing and new bus shelters, these were completed in the same materials as those now found between Chiswick Lane and Goldhawk Road.
The phase 3b works included:
- New entry treatments and raised tables at the junctions with Cranbrook Road, Brackley Road, Devonshire Road, Linden Gardens (entry & exit) & Duke’s Road
- New eastbound and westbound bus shelters at Cranbrook Road, Mayfield Avenue and Linden Gardens
- Left turn exit only for motorised vehicles installed at Duke’s Road Junction
- New parking spaces installed near Duke’s Road Junction
- New advanced stopline for cyclists installed near junction with Acton Lane
- Junction resurfacing and installation of yellow box Junction marking at Chiswick High Road junction with Turnham Green Terrace & Annandale Road and at Junction with Duke Avenue
- New Zebra crossing on Chiswick High Road junction with Linden Gardens one way exit
- Resurfacing of westbound carriageway of Chiswick High Road at Heathfield Terrace.
These changes are part of the trial scheme between the Goldhawk Road Junction and Heathfield Terrace and are subject to the outcomes of the public consultation undertaken by TfL between October 2022 and April 2023.
