Cycleway 9: Watermans Park to Alexandra Road: Morrisons Supermarket

We’re creating a new cycle network across Hounslow to help connect our people with key destinations, residential areas, and inner London in a safe and sustainable way. In partnership with Transport for London, works are underway on the Cycleway 9 (C9) route between Watermans Park and Alexandra Road (Morrisons Supermarket).

This new section will connect to the newly completed route between Kew Bridge and Watermans Park.

Works on this section of the project will continue until the summer of 2024.

Update – June 2024

From Monday 1 July, we will commence road resurfacing works between Watermans Park and Alexandra Road.

Works will be undertaken at night from 9pm to 5am, Monday night to Saturday morning to help reduce impacts to road users.

Crews will work in sections over the coming weeks with all works expected to be completed by the end of July dependent on weather.

Traffic impacts during night works

Whilst night works are underway, only pedestrians, cyclists and emergency vehicles will be able to travel through the area.

Detours will be in place and on-site signage will be in place to guide drivers safely through the area.

Property access will be maintained and crews will be onsite to support any residents or businesses who might be impacted.

Delays are expected and there may be some additional noise and light.

If you can, please consider avoiding the area at night.

If you do need to travel through the area, keep an eye out for changed traffic conditions and allow for some extra travel time.

What we’re doing

The works between Watermans Park and Alexandra Road (Morrisons Supermarket) include:

  • One-way, protected cycle lanes on both sides of the High Street
  • Two new pedestrian crossings at Alexandra Road and Pottery Road
  • Higher quality pavement surfaces for pedestrians
  • Upgrades to four existing pedestrian crossings at Ferry Lane, Ealing Road, North Road and Holland Gardens
  • Redesign of side roads and junctions to make them safer for people walking.

Changes to bus services

To help us deliver this exciting project, there will be some changes to bus services traveling along Brentford High Street.

Permanent changes to TfL bus stops

Buses traveling eastbound towards Chiswick will no longer be stopping at:

  • Brentford County Court (eastbound) – permanently closed, replaced by new stop opposite the old Fire Station at Ferry Lane
  • Musical Museum (eastbound) – permanently closed, replaced by new stop at Holland Garden

Temporary changes to TfL bus stops

While works are underway, at times there will be some temporary bus stop closures along Brentford High Street.

We will set up temporary bus stop signs where we can, however if you are using the TFL bus network, please plan ahead and allow some extra travel time.

Update – March 2024

We’re delivering dedicated cycle lanes, to help people travelling in Hounslow reach their destination in a safe and sustainable way.

From 18 March 2024, works will commence at the junction of Ealing Road and Brentford High Street. Crews will be undertaking resurfacing and drainage works, as well as improvements to footways and the pedestrian crossing at the intersection.

To help keep everyone safe, alternating temporary lanes closures, or shuttle flow, will be in place at different times during works. Temporary traffic lights will be on site to help guide road uses safely through the area. Delays are expected, particularly at peak times.

If you can, please consider avoiding the area during peak times or consider using alternative modes of transport to travel through the junction.

If you do need to travel through the area, keep an eye out for changed traffic conditions and allow for some extra travel time.

Changes to bus services

To help us deliver this exciting project, there will be some changes to bus services traveling along Brentford High Street.

Permanent changes to bus stops

Buses traveling eastbound towards Chiswick will no longer be stopping at the Brentford County Court or Musical Museum. These stops are now permanently closed.

Passengers can still use the following stops along Brentford High Street to access these services safely, which are only a short walk from the permanently closed stops.

  • Watermans Centre (Eastbound)
  • Holland Gardens (Eastbound)

To support our community, we’re also creating a new bus stop as part of these works to replace the Brentford County Court westbound stop.

The Ferry Lane bus stop will replace the old Brentford Country Court (Eastbound) stop and will be located near the intersection of Ealing Road and Brentford High Street.

It is currently under construction and will be open for use in the coming months.

Temporary changes during works

While works are underway, there will also be some temporary bus stop closures along Brentford High Street.

Upcoming temporary bus stop closures include:

  • Market Place Brentford (Westbound towards Isleworth) will be closed from 12 April 2024, reopening early July 2024.
  • Market Place Brentford (Eastbound towards Chiswick) will be closed from 18 March 2024, reopening 25 March 2024.
