General principles of travel assistance
The council operates a travel assistance service which aims to meet the needs of children and young people in an efficient, safe and cost effective way.
We will use the criteria within the travel assistance policies to decide whether the child/young person may be entitled to borough provided travel assistance.
When making decision we will assess:
- The individual pupil or young person’s specific needs
- The parents/carers’ legal responsibility to bring about the attendance of the pupil at school
- The suitability of the school, as defined in the guidance
- Our overall duty to ensure an efficient use of the council’s resources
