Local petitions and referendums

In accordance with the Local Authorities (Referendums) (Petitions) (England) Regulations 2011, we are required to publish the number that was equal to 5% of the local government electors in the authority's area as shown in the register of electors having effect on 15 February each year.

The number that is equal to 5% of the number of local government electors in the updated 1 February 2024 version of the electoral register for the London Borough of Hounslow having effect on 15 February 2024 is 9,748 (the 'verification number').

This verification number will have effect for the purposes of determining the validity of any petitions which are presented between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025 asking the Council to hold a referendum on change on its governance arrangements.

A new verification number will be published within 14 days of 15 February 2025. If that number is less than 9,748, the number to be used for verification purposes in relation to any petition submitted to the Council in the period beginning on the date of publication of the lower number until 31 March 2025 shall be that lower number.
