Taxicard is a subsidised service that offers taxis and private hire vehicles for those who find it difficult to access other modes of public transport through long term disability.
Who can apply
You can get a Taxicard if you:
- get the higher rate mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance
- score 8 points or more for the moving around activity part of Personal Independence Payment
- are registered severely sight impaired or blind (not partially sighted)
- receive War Pension Mobility Supplement
You could also qualify if you have:
- a long term disability which affects your ability to use public transport
- a child under three who requires bulky medical equipment that's difficult to carry
How to apply
Before you start, find out about eligibility and applying for a Taxicard on London Councils' website, including audio and British Sign Language video formats.
To apply, download an application form from the London Councils website. When returning your completed form, you will need to include:
- proof of identity and address
- medical evidence of disability
- a passport-size colour photo

Your application will take 6 to 8 weeks to process. It can take longer if more information is needed.

Using your card
Taxicard is designed for shopping trips, visiting friends and other activities. You can use your card at any time, but it is subject to taxi or minicab availability.

Other information
If you are disabled and find it difficult getting from your car to your destination, you may be able to get a Blue Badge parking permit.
