Child Car Seats

There is a lot of confusion about rules for children travelling in cars, which is why the Hounslow Road Safety Team offer child car seat fitting clinics in various locations around the borough.

In 2017, we checked 437 child car seats, of which 78% were incorrectly fitted.

Community Roadwatch

Community Roadwatch is an initiative to improve road safety by reducing speed on local roads. Volunteers work in partnership Metropolitan and City of London Police, and use speed detection equipment to identify speeding motorists. Motorists over the speed limit will be notified, and their information will then be known to the police should further action be needed.

Get involved – volunteer to help make your community safer

Working alongside police community support officers, you’ll be given full training to identify speeding motorists. Sessions usually last between one and two hours.

To volunteer, you need to be over 18 years old. Simply email your name, Hounslow borough and contact details, and someone will be in touch. Please email the Community Roadwatch team on CommunityRoadwatch@met.police.uk.

Community Pedestrian Safety

Pedestrians along with cyclists and motorcyclists make up those categorised as vulnerable road users. We are working with our local older community groups to raise awareness on the importance of staying safer on our roads as an adult pedestrian and certain measures they can take to be safer. The majority of adult pedestrian related road collisions occur within 50 metres of a crossing. These sessions explore the reason for this and look at ways of keeping ourselves safer when out and about.

These sessions are free to book. Please email the Road Safety Team on roadsafety@hounslow.gov.uk.

Play Streets

Get together with your neighbours and request for your residential road to be closed to allow children to play without worrying about vehicles passing through. For more information go to our Play Street webpage.
