Who can foster?

To be considered as a foster carer you don’t need to have previous experience of working with children or have children of your own.

You need to:

  •  be aged over 21
  •  have a spare room, if fostering children aged over two 
  •  live or work within reasonable distance of Hounslow borough
  •  be able to take children to and from school where necessary
  •  be able to take children to and from contact with their family
  •  be able to take a child to health appointments
  •  be able to meet a child’s educational needs
  •  be in good health
  •  speak, read and write English
  •  have indefinite leave to remain in the UK 
  •  British citizenship is not required, but it is expected that you would be a legal, full time resident of the UK
  •  be passionate about making a real difference to a child/young person’s life.

Hounslow foster carers can be:

  •  from any cultural or religious background
  •  single, married or living with a partner
  •  heterosexual or LGBT+
  •  persons with disabilities
  •  living in rented, owned or council property
  •  a parent or someone who has experience of caring for children.
