Child work permits
Permitted hours of child employment
Term time
- 1 hour before school and one hour after school or two hours after school (not before 7am and not after 7pm)
- Maximum of 12 hours per week
Saturdays
- Aged 13 and 14: maximum five hours between 7am and 7pm
- Aged 15 and 16: maximum eight hours between 7am and 7pm.
- A 1 hour break must be taken after working four hours consecutively
Sundays
- Aged 13 - 16: maximum two hours between 7am and 7pm
School holidays
- Aged 13 and 14: maximum five hours between 7am and 7pm.
- Aged 15 and 16: maximum eight hours between 7am and 7pm.
- A 1 hour break must be taken after working four hours consecutively
Maximum hours
- A 13 or 14-year-old can work a maximum of 25 hours per week during the school holidays
- A 15 or 16-year-old can work a maximum of 35 hours per week during the school holidays
- A child must have at least two consecutive weeks' break from work per year
- A child still requires a Work Permit until the last Friday in June of School Year 11 even if they have reached 16 prior to this date.
