Picking up and dropping off passengers
The exemption for picking up and dropping off passengers includes such things as the time necessary for retrieving luggage or other personal effects from the vehicle, but not time spent waiting for a passenger to arrive or after they have departed, and the driver is expected to remain with the vehicle.
Places you can pick up or drop off passengers
- On single or double yellow lines.
- In resident permit or pay to park/shared use bays.
- Next to dropped kerbs (both pedestrian and vehicular).
Places you can’t pick up or drop off passengers
- On the footway
- On restricted bus stop/stands
- On pedestrian crossings
- Red routes (unless a taxi/mini cab driver displaying a TfL issued roundel in the rear window, or a Blue Badge holder).
