Bedfont, Hanworth and Feltham CLS
Three schemes have been identified by local residents in Bedfont, Feltham and Hanworth as an area for improvement. Saxon Avenue junction improvement, The Vale low traffic neighbourhood with pedestrian / cycle improvements and the upgrading of the footpath running from the subway to Orchard Road to along the trainline near Feltham Train Station to a shared use cycle / pedestrian facility. A section of the railway path is private and so this is to be delivered later in the programme following the acquisition of the land.
Saxon Avenue – Feltham
The Saxon Avenue CLS scheme provides several improvements to all forms of transport along Saxon Avenue. Saxon Avenue will be going out to consultation in October 2023. The proposed works includes:
- Conversion of existing roundabout to a throughabout allowing for uninterrupted passage for larger vehicles such as emergency and refuse, where currently its notable that due to tight parking spaces vehicle are not able to effectively use the roundabout.
- Moving existing parking bays off kerb onto carriageway, where currently the entire footway is used for parked vehicles, and vehicles mount/dismount to grass verge.
- Raised table between the throughabout to ensure it does not encourage speeding through Saxon Avenue.
- Raised continuous pedestrian crossings to improve safety and better connection to the Crane Park.
- Plant 11 new trees in the green space

The Vale Road Closure with Hounslow Road
The junction between The Vale and Hounslow Road was closed in March 2023 in response to traffic using The Vale to avoid queuing at the traffic signals at Staines Road. The works included construction of a new shared use footway across this junction, which allows for cyclists to travel between Hounslow Road and The Vale at the road closure.
Stanwell Road, Feltham
The Stanwell Road scheme will introduce a new shared use footway on the southern side of Stanwell Road, between Great South-West Road (A40) and Bedfont Road roundabout, which is currently grass verge and not suitable for use by pedestrians and cyclists.
Proposed works include:
- Construction of new shared-use footway on the southern side
- Improvements to bus stop areas
- Planting of 8 new trees
- Removal of redundant accesses and pedestrian priority across active accesses.
The works are due to be carried out by end of 2023 / early 2024.
Railway Path west of Orchard Road, Feltham
Works were recently completed between Orchard Road and Hanover Avenue. Over the next year land is to be acquired to continue these improvements and following this to upgrade the remainder of the footway. Should additional funding be identified the intention is to widen the full length of the footpath to make this a shared facility for cyclists and pedestrians. This work is planned for 23/24 to 24/25.
