What type of information we have
The information collected on the application form is only used for the purpose of booking an appointment for a Birth, Death, Stillbirth and attesting a Notice of Marriage or Civil Partnership.
We will collect and process the following information:
- Your name
- Your address
- Your email
- Your telephone numbers
Depending on the appointment type we will require:
- Information about the deceased
- Date of birth and place of birth of child
- Nationality
- Immigration status
How do we get your information?
All the personal information we process is provided to us directly by you via our online booking system, to register a Birth, Death, Stillbirth, or attest a Notice of Marriage and Civil Partnership.
Our Lawful basis for processing your information
The lawful basis we rely on for processing this information is:
- Public task
If the information you provide us contains special category data, such as health, religious or ethnic information the legal basis we rely on to process is:
- Substantial Public Interest- under schedule 1 of the Data Protection Act 2018, this is processing that is necessary to carry out for Statutory & Government purposes.
Why we need your information (purposes of processing)
- To establish correct district and legalities to register a Birth, Death, Stillbirth, or attest a Notice of Marriage and Civil Partnership.
- To order a Birth, Death or Marriage and Civil Partnership certificate.
The information given is used to facilitate an appointment booking. This data is only accessed by the registrations team.
Who your information may be shared with (internally and externally)
We do not share any of the data supplied with any third parties.
How long we keep your information
We will keep details of booking information for 3 months.
We will then dispose your information in the most secure manner possible.

Your right to make a complaint
The Council tries to meet the highest standards when collecting and using personal information. For this reason, we take any complaints we receive about this very seriously.
