Loneliness and depression
Looking after someone is a big responsibility and can leave you feeling cut off from the outside world. Talking to other carers can be useful to know that you are not alone.
There are several Carer Support Groups in Hounslow. The groups are informal and provide an opportunity to meet other carers, share knowledge and get support from each other.
Loneliness can make you feel miserable and sometimes it can turn into a more fundamental problem that needs to be addressed. If talking to other people is not helping you cope with your feelings of loneliness, it can be a sign that you need additional support. If you think you, or someone else you know, might be depressed it is important to get help.
Visit your GP - tell your doctor that you are a carer and discuss the impact this could be having on your health. Depending on your needs, they may suggest medication, counselling or both.
Counselling
Seek counselling – either ask your GP to refer you to a counsellor or find one yourself. Talking to a trained professional can help you put things into perspective and find better ways to cope with your situation.
Hounslow Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) is a free talking therapy service for depression and anxiety.
