Summer 2023 update

Nature in bloom

Boston Manor Park is a stunning picture all year round, but there’s something special about the scenery when nature starts to bloom in spring.

  • Plants and trees are truly flourishing in the park.

  • Volunteers from Hounslow residents, schools and businesses have all contributed to planting up new beds and borders around the park.

  •  The new loggery in the Walled Garden provides a valuable deadwood habitat for beetles and bugs and makes great use of a shady spot now lush with ferns, Hellebores, Heuchera and Brunnera. Other beds are filled with plants for pollinators and we can already see small fruits on the espalier apple and pear trees.

  • We have started growing vegetables too. If you would like to learn how to grow healthy veg (volunteers get to share the produce), contact us at bostonmanorpark@hounslow.gov.uk We have volunteering sessions on Tuesday mornings, but also evening and weekend sessions, so you can still join in if you’re busy during the day.

Nature Festival: Saturday, 3 June

Hounslow residents (friends and family too!) are invited to attend the formal celebration of the National Lottery funded Reconnecting Boston Manor Park.

The Nature Festival, on Saturday, 3 June between 12pm and 4pm at Boston Manor Park Hub, Boston Manor Road, Brentford, marks the completion of a series of improvement works that have been implemented in Boston Manor Park over the last few years.

Expect stalls, free activities for all ages, local arts and crafts artists, petting zoo, refreshments, and a showcase of wildlife, nature and Boston Manor Park’s habitats and history.

The Boston Manor Park staff will be there, Vanessa (Natural Park Manager), Tash (Volunteering and Education Officer) and David (Horticulture Apprentice) – come along and say hello!

We look forward to welcoming you for a day of celebration.

Grand opening of Boston Manor Park’s café

We are delighted to announce the opening of The Potting Shed in the Boston Manor Park Hub, which will be operated by the team behind The Arts Centre, Hounslow.  The Potting Shed will serve artisan coffee, tea and food, and provide park users and local businesses with a relaxing place to meet and enjoy the newly developed playgrounds, sporting facilities, and amenities of Boston Manor Park.

The café will begin limited operation from Friday, 2 June, with opening hours gradually increasing ahead of a full opening on Saturday, 24 June. To celebrate the opening, the Potting Shed will be attending the Nature festival in the park this Saturday (3 June), and will be providing the first 100 customers of the day with packets of wildflower seeds.

New infrastructure

If you’ve visited the park recently, along with the arrival of plenty of bird life on the lake, you’ll have noticed the viewing platform overlooking the islands. Look out for a gang of goslings, clutch of coot chicks and plenty of ducks, including Tufted, Mandarin, Aylesbury, and Indian runner ducks.

The boardwalk that runs alongside the river is nearing completion, with just the timber steps to install, for which we are awaiting confirmation of delivery date. The completion of the boardwalk will make the woodland trail accessible year-round – so there will no longer be a muddy path to negotiate!

The tarmac paths have now all been topped with tar and chip surface. While the chip surfacing is a little loose now, it will settle over time. The light colour complements the heritage and natural look of the park.
