Under the Gambling Act 2005, councils must produce a Statement of Gambling Principles at least every 3 years. The Council is the licensing authority in Hounslow for the purposes of some gambling activity under the Gambling Act 2005.
The Statement is an integral part of the licensing process and it allows the Council to set out our general approach to regulating gambling activities in the Borough. The Policy provides guidance to applicants, licence holders, residents and Members which helps to provide consistency in decision making, builds public confidence and assists in making Hounslow a safe borough.
The Act has three licensing objectives:
- preventing gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder or being used to support crime
- ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way
- protecting children and other vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling.
