Same Day/Muslim Burials
Hounslow Council provides two dedicated Muslim sections located at the Borough Cemetery and Hatton Cemetery. Hatton Cemetery is lawn only, and the Muslim sections at Borough Cemetery have been reclassified as Traditional graves (where a full memorial is permitted).
- Graves are oriented to face Mecca.
- Burials can take place in a coffin or a casket.
- Shroud burials are only possible if the ground and weather conditions are suitable, and are subject to a risk assessment. There is a naturally occuring high water table locally, that is not conducive to shroud burials.
- Each grave can be prepared for more than one depth, to allow loved ones to be buried together in the same grave.
- Families can put the soil back in the grave themselves (backfill).
Arranging a Same day/Muslim burial
- The Cemeteries office must receive a completed Interment Form, the Certificate for Burial and the applicable fee by no later than 10.30am on the morning of the proposed burial date, if the burial is to take place that afternoon.
- Since there are several legal requirements before the funeral can take place, please ensure that the death is certified and registered before you make any funeral arrangements.
For the same day Saturday/Sunday/Bank Holiday Muslim funerals, the Funeral Director must arrange the burial with Greenspace360 by 10:30am. The Funeral Director needs to provide them with a scanned copy of the certificate for burial issued by the Registrar. The original copy must be presented to the cemetery staff. The original certificate needs to be delivered to our Cemeteries office along with the payment the first following working day
Please contact Greenspace360 Emergency switchboard number 020 8583 2222.
Weekend/Bank Holiday burials in reserved graves
Please be aware that same day burials in reserved plots will not be carried out over the weekend/bank holidays. This is due to the fact, that our contractor does not have access to our burial records at that time. Burial will be only allowed in newly purchased graves.
