Hounslow Council has funded festive community events across the borough’s town centres in a bid to bring the community together. The events were also credited with boosting footfall, which helped local retailers during the festive season.
Through the new Community Festive Events small grants scheme, the Council supported:
- Hounslow Town Centre’s Winter Nights, organised by Creative People & Places Hounslow.
- Feltham’s Winters Night Carnival, organised by Feltham Arts.
- Chiswick’s Christmas Lights switch on and a Christmas tree, organised by Councillor Joanna Biddolph, ward member for Chiswick Gunnersbury.
- Brentford’s Christmas Market, supported by Brentford Voice.
- Isleworth’s Festive Market and Christmas Carols on Saturday, supported by South Street Café.
The Leader of Hounslow Council, Councillor Shantanu Rajawat said:
“We are delighted to be supporting a range of festive events across our town and neighbourhood centres. Our local partners have planned and produced exciting events that can be enjoyed by everyone. We are lucky to have so many committed hard-working groups that want to bring festive joy to our residents.
“These events serve as a brilliant opportunity for residents to support local retailers and traders in the area who are tackling the challenges of rising costs and lower spending. Local businesses are a crucial part of what makes our borough a great place to live, and I would urge residents to shop local this festive season where they can.”
The annual Hounslow Winter Lights event saw members of the community, including children, parade the designated route through the high street with handmade lanterns, while occupancies by street performers to bring the high street to life as the nights get darker.
Hounslow Winter Lights event organiser Lucy Thurley, Programme Manager for Creative People & Places Hounslow, said:
“Hounslow’s Winter Lights 2022 was a great event, it was wonderful to see the whole community coming together, parading through the town centre, and enjoying the finale performance. People from across the borough made lanterns in workshops led by local artists, collaborating to create an event by, with and for the people of Hounslow. Council funding was critical in making this event happen and the local community made it a great success.”
