The Leader of Hounslow Council, Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, has issued a statement on the one-year anniversary of the war in Ukraine.
Published: Friday, 24th February 2023
It is hard to believe that only a year ago the deplorable invasion of Ukraine took place and had such a devastating effect on the people of Ukraine. Despite facing the horrific impact of war, the Ukrainian people have shown admirable strength and stoicism in the face of adversity.
With 188 languages spoken in our borough, Hounslow has a proud history of supporting refugees and we will continue to offer assistance and support to Ukrainians living in our borough. We remain side by side – shoulder to shoulder – with Ukraine.
Residents across Hounslow can show their support by taking part in the national moment of silence on Friday 24 February at 11am.
The Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain (AUGB), Ukrainian Churches and other organisations will also be holding events nationwide to commemorate the day. Their focus will be on marking 365 days of resistance by Ukrainians and kindness from the UK to Ukraine. The current list of events is being regularly updated and is found here.
