From Friday 21 April, Transport for London (TfL) will begin work to repair the underside of Grove Park bridge which carries the A316 Great Chertsey Road over the railway between Barnes Bridge and Chiswick train stations.
From 21 April until early-October 2023, TfL staff will work on weekdays between 08:00 and 17:00. There will also be work on some weekends when the railway is temporarily closed, 24 hours a day. Highway staff may not be visible at road level as they will be working to repair the underside of the bridge.
On the dates listed below – from 10:00pm to 6:00am the next morning – TfL will close the northbound side of the A316 and keep traffic moving in both directions in the southbound side of the road using temporary traffic lights. If you are planning to drive on the A316 Great Chertsey Road during these times, allow extra time for your journey.

On dates when the northbound lane of the A316 is closed and 24 hour working is in effect, the Council will temporarily suspend enforcement of the South Chiswick restrictions at Staveley Road, Hartington Road and Thames Road. Sunday dates will remain as at present with full access. Restrictions will remain in place on days when 24 hour working is not in progress.
The pavement on the northbound side of the road will be closed over the bridge during the dates above. A safe diversion for pedestrians will be signposted. The bus stop at Hartington Road (Stop P) will be relocated nearer to the junction with Hartington Road.
Please note, enforcement of access restrictions on Hartington Road and on Staveley Road will operate as normal on Monday 01 May (8am – 7pm).
