Local residents and visitors will be able to hire the shared e-bikes and enjoy the benefits that cycling can bring, from improved health to cleaner air. The bikes will be gradually introduced to the borough in a phased approach, starting with Chiswick and Brentford. It will then expand to Osterley, Isleworth & Hounslow in July before expanding into Heston, Cranford, Bedfont, Feltham & Hanworth in August. On launch, users will not be able to ride outside of any Lime operational areas unless advised by the app.
As part of the new scheme, Lime will offer 50 per cent off the cost of e-bike rides for lower income residents via its Lime Access programme. The programme provides eligible riders - including concession pass holders, key workers, students and the unemployed - with unlimited discounts with Lime, helping them to get where they need to go in a safe, sustainable and affordable way.
Hal Stevenson, Senior Public Affairs Manager at Lime UK and Ireland commented: “We are delighted to introduce our e-bikes to Hounslow. The borough is already home to an impressive number of cyclists that are committed to living more sustainable and active lifestyles, and we hope this can continue to grow with the launch of our scheme in partnership with the Council.”
To practise responsible parking, users will be required to park the e-bikes at mandatory parking zones located around the borough which are marked out. Riders are required to take a mandatory end of trip photo, which are all reviewed. Those that park outside of these zones will be warned and then fined.
Councillor Katherine Dunne, Cabinet Member for Climate, Environment and Transport said: “Cycling has so many benefits - from supporting people’s health and wellbeing, to easing traffic and improving air quality.
“By introducing dockless e-bikes to the borough and enabling people to take one-way trips, we can encourage even more people to try out cycling in the area and improve the air quality for all.”
