The health event of the season is making a welcome return to Hounslow this summer and it promises something for everyone.
Last year, more than 2,000 people flocked to Health in the Park - a full day of fun with a health and wellbeing flavour.
The event was so successful that Hounslow’s Borough Based Partnership (BBP) in partnership with Hounslow Council will be staging it once again at Lampton Park on Saturday, 15 June.
The free event is a partnership between the BBP, local NHS Services and voluntary and community groups and will run from 11am to 3pm.
More than 30 groups are involved with Health in the Park by hosting stalls or delivering healthy activities. The popular Healthy Hounslow Team will be in attendance giving advice on a range of health issues and providing free health MOTs.
All activities are free and have been designed by health and community partners.
Here’s what’s on offer:
- Hop on a smoothie bike and make a refreshing drink while you cycle
- Test your skills on the court with tennis taster sessions
- Jump on the inflatable 5-a-side football pitch for some friendly competition
- Get involved in a nature treasure hunt
- Immerse yourself in African culture
- Centre your mind with Baduanjin qigong (a mind and body exercise using meditation), 12-minute sessions on offer throughout the day.
- Test your knowledge with health quizzes
- Join an outdoor yoga or Tai Chi session
- Enjoy live cooking demonstrations
- Share your voice in a dementia-friendly 20-minute Singing for the Brain session
- Relax in the sunshine and participate in a painting and sketching session
Anne Stratton, Hounslow Borough Based Partnership Director and Chief Operating Officer, Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare Trust, said:
“Last year more than 2,000 people attended Health in the Park, and we hope more will attend this year to enjoy a range of free health activities designed to help residents lead healthier lifestyles.
“A range of health professionals will also be available on the day to provide helpful advice and guidance on how we can all support long-term health. Plus, there will also be leads from support groups highlighting the easy ways to access their services in the borough.”
Councillor Samia Chaudhary, Hounslow Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Public Health and Transformation, said:
“We were delighted to see so many people at the first Health in the Park and I’d like to thank everyone who’s worked so hard to bring it back this summer.
“Our Borough Based Partnership is a great example of collaboration yielding results for the people of Hounslow. It does excellent work all year round to improve health outcomes for everyone in the borough, a big part of which is working with local voluntary and community groups.
“Health in the Park is a great way to showcase these groups’ fantastic work and put on a wonderful free event for families. Please come down, support everyone who’s given up their time to make it happen, and most importantly have fun!”
