Today, Hounslow Council is celebrating after receiving 21 Green Flag Awards for its outstanding parks and green spaces - the highest number of Green Flags the borough has won, ranking Hounslow at 7th place in London.
The Green Flag Award is a prestigious international benchmark, celebrating the highest standards in publicly accessible parks and green spaces across the United Kingdom and worldwide.
Parks such as Feltham Green and Hanworth’s Pevensey Road Nature Reserve were recognised at the prestigious awards ceremony in London.
This achievement showcases the council's commitment to maintaining exceptional green spaces for the community to enjoy.
Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager, Paul Todd MBE, said:
I would like to congratulate everyone involved at Hounslow Council on their results at the Green Flag Awards.
Green spaces are vital for communities in Hounslow to socialise, enjoy nature, for children to play safely, providing important opportunities for park users to improve their physical and mental health.
We know that staff and volunteers work tirelessly to meet the high standards of the Green Flag Award, and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.
It is important that our free to use spaces are maintained to the Green Flag Award standard, making them accessible for all members of the community while ensuring the environment is protected.
Councillor Salman Shaheen, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Public Spaces at Hounslow Council, said:
The Green Flag Awards are a prestigious recognition of the nation’s most loved green spaces, and I am proud that Hounslow has been recognised for the many, many treasured places our borough maintains.
We are not just a bus stop, or a flight path, these awards show we have some of the best green spaces in London. They are testament to the passion, hard work and dedication that our teams and community volunteers show in improving and maintaining the places we love.
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces.
