Last night, Hounslow Council approved the proposed submission version of Hounslow’s Local Plan, known as the Regulation 19 version, at its full Council Meeting.
Published: Wednesday, 24th July 2024
The Local Plan is the blueprint for Hounslow’s growth until 2041 and the Council will soon be inviting residents to share their views on the plan.
It will help shape the future growth of the borough by:
- Delivering much needed new homes for local people, including genuinely affordable housing.
- Allocating land for the development of new employment and commercial sites.
- Providing a framework for regeneration in Hounslow’s town centres.
- Delivering enhanced community infrastructure and improved transport links.
- Creating local job opportunities.
With Hounslow Council declaring a climate emergency in 2019, the Local Plan also focuses on reducing the borough’s emissions and embedding sustainable design, enhancing biodiversity, protecting the environment, and conserving Hounslow's heritage assets and natural surroundings.
Residents, businesses and other stakeholders will soon have the opportunity to participate in a formal public consultation period (Regulation 19) to provide their feedback. The Local Plan, along with all the feedback received during its public consultation, will then be submitted to be examined by a government appointed Inspector.
More information about the Local Plan and the upcoming public consultation is available online.
Cllr Tom Bruce, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Assets, Regeneration and Development, said:
This is a significant milestone for Hounslow. Our new Local Plan is crucial for making Hounslow a vibrant place to live, work, and do business. It will help us build much-needed new homes, create jobs, and develop sustainable and inclusive communities. We’ve worked closely with our community to shape this plan, ensuring it meets the needs of our residents. Your feedback is vital to ensuring we get it right for Hounslow’s future.
The importance of having an up-to-date Local Plan was recently highlighted by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, who emphasised the need for universal coverage of Local Plans.
