Hounslow Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate, Environment and Transport, Cllr Katherine Dunne, has welcomed an announcement about step-free access at Turnham Green Underground Station.
Transport for London (TfL) has today (Monday) announced that the tube stop is one of seven stations that will undergo a feasibility assessment for the introduction of the fully-inclusive access.
Step-free means the potential introduction of a range of measures to ensure that travellers do not have to use stairs or escalators from the street to the station platform.
In welcoming the announcement, Cllr Dunne said:
We are delighted with the news that Turnham Green Underground Station is to be assessed for step-free access as part of Transport for London’s ongoing programme.
This is great news for everyone who uses public transport in our borough, particularly those with mobility issues, wheelchair users and parents with prams and pushchairs.
Today’s announcement further supports Hounslow Council’s vision for making all public transport in our borough inclusive and accessible.
We have recently celebrated the opening of accessible lifts at Isleworth Station following £1m of Council investment. The Council has conducted accessibility audits at all national rail and TfL stations in the borough.
On top of this, Kew Bridge and Gunnersbury stations have been awarded Access for All funding so we can explore the possibility of step-free access.
We look forward to working with TfL to progress the plans for Turnham Green and continuing our work to create a public transport network in our borough that provides all residents with greater choice and independence.
