A real Hounslow success story is looking for some community-minded people with skills they can share to continue to help borough residents feel happy and healthy.

Since the beginning of 2024, Hounslow Councils Housing Services Happy and Healthy in Hounslow project has turned thousands of people onto the joys of exercise, healthy living, mindfulness, well-being and learning new creative skills.

Originally aimed at residents aged sixty plus living within the Councils sheltered accommodation, the scheme has proved so popular that the team behind it has expanded the scope to include anyone over 18.

Now the Housing Activities team is looking for willing individuals keen to pass on their knowledge by volunteering to be part of the project.

The list of healthy activities includes everything from aerobics to Zumba and gentle chair-based exercises to Yoga. For the creatively-minded, there is a wealth of arts and crafts sessions, along with educational courses in IT, gadget support, music therapy and dementia cafes.

The team is keen to hear from:

A volunteer yoga teacher

An arts and crafts tutor

A chair-based exercise instructor to work with the over 60s.

The sessions will take place in venues in Hounslow West, Hounslow Central and Hounslow East.

Hounslow Councils Cabinet Member of Homelessness and Housing Management, Cllr Sue Sampson, said: This is a great opportunity to get involved in an ongoing Hounslow success story and share your skills with the wider community. For aspiring tutors, its a good chance to perfect your presentation, work with a supportive team and make a difference in peoples lives.

We know that there are many people in our borough who will want to help us, so please get in touch, we would love to hear from you.”

The courses are expected to run between 10.30am and 3.30pm but can be based on your availability.

You will need to have a qualification and experience in your chosen discipline a valid DBS and valid liability insurance.

The new programme for Happy and Healthy in Hounslow is expected to start in September.
