Hounslow Council is proposing important changes to the Council Tenancy Strategy that could affect tenants and their families.

The Councils Housing team is looking to stop issuing flexible tenancies which means tenants can more quickly achieve a secure tenancy that provides greater security.

Tenants will have a 12-month introductory tenancy, and if they keep to the terms, they will receive a lifetime secure tenancy, removing the uncertainty of the current five-year flexible tenancy review period.

To progress the plans, the Council needs to hear what tenants, family members and other interested parties think about the proposals.

Whether you are a current tenant, are on the Housing Register or live near Council homes, your voice matters. The consultation is open until November 13, and you can participate online through our Lets Talk Hounslow platform.

Alternatively, housing engagement officers will engage with tenants in person to discuss and support the changes.

You can speak with the engagement team at the following venues:

  • Monday:  Hounslow House, Bath Road, Hounslow - 10am - 1pm.
  • Tuesday: Feltham Assembly Hall, Hounslow Road - 2pm - 5pm - Oriel Community Centre, Cresswell Road, Hanworth - 10am - 1pm.
  • Wednesday: Mission Hall, Mission Square, Brentford - 10am - 1pm - Oriel Community Centre, Cresswell Road, Hanworth  10am - 12pm.
  • Thursday: Hounslow House, Bath Road, Hounslow - 5pm - 7.30pm.
  • Friday: Brentford Library, Boston Manor Road - 10am - 2pm.

Tenants can also speak to the team at Social Café at Mission Hall, each Wednesday between 10am to 1pm and at Oriel Community Centre every Tuesday from 10am to 1pm.

Hounslow Councils Cabinet Member for Homelessness and Housing Management, Cllr Sue Sampson said:

We want to support tenants and prospective tenants by removing the flexible tenancy agreements and giving people a greater sense of security. Before we can do this, we need to hear your thoughts about these proposals.

People must have their say on this important issue, so please take a few minutes to complete our simple online survey. We look forward to hearing your view.”
