Hounslow Council is urging everyone to think about the waste they produce for National Recycle Event.

This annual event, which runs from 14 - 20 October, shines a spotlight on all the great ways we can help to protect the environment and the planet by recycling more. The theme for this year’s event is Rescue Me and focuses on how we can all save unwanted items from being thrown away.

To celebrate, Hounslow Council’s Recycling Team will be taking its show on the road, visiting venues across the borough to spread the word.

Residents can catch the recycling team at the following locations:

  • Tuesday, 15 October - Morrisons, Brentford - 10am - 2pm.
  • Wednesday, 16 October - Tesco, Osterley - 10am - 2pm.

Residents can also unleash their recycling magic with Hounslow Council’s new Waste Wizard gizmo.

The handy online tool and app takes the strain out of recycling by telling residents instantly what goes where. Give it a try for Recycle Week at: hounslow.gov.uk/wastewizard

Meanwhile, Hounslow Council’s recycling partner Recycle 360 is inviting residents to a special Open Day at the Southall Lane Depot on Saturday, 19 October, from 10am to 3pm. This is a unique opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the recycling facility and find out what really happens to your recyclables after theyre collected.

Visitors can join a guided tour, running every hour, to follow the journey of recyclables through sorting, processing, and transforming them into reusable materials. In addition to the tours, interactive stalls will be hosted by partner companies, showcasing sustainable products and tips for reducing residents’ environmental footprint.

With fun family activities throughout the day and refreshments available on-site, this is a fantastic day out for anyone interested in recycling and sustainability. Most activities are outdoors, so please dress for the weather. Parking is limited, so residents are advised to use public transport.

No booking is needed – just turn up and enjoy. Cllr Shivraj Grewal Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Recycling and Transformation at Hounslow Council, said: National Recycle Week is a fantastic opportunity for us all to reflect on the small changes we can make to improve our recycling habits. By rescuing more items from the rubbish bin, we can all play a part in protecting our environment for future generations. I encourage all residents to come along to one of our events, try out the Waste Wizard, and see firsthand how their recycling efforts make a difference.”
