Alongside this pledge, the Council is launching its Local Climate Investment (also referred to as a Local Climate Bond), offering residents, community groups, employees, and businesses an exciting opportunity to actively contribute to a greener, more sustainable future for the borough.

Set to officially launch in June 2025, the Local Climate Investment aims to raise £5 million over the next five years to fund critical low-carbon projects across the borough. These projects will address climate change head-on, from increasing renewable energy sources and expanding green spaces to promoting sustainable travel. Contributions start at just £5, making this a community-driven initiative accessible to all.

Councillor Katherine Dunne, Cabinet Member for Climate, Environment, and Transport, said:

“This is an incredibly exciting moment for Hounslow. By signing the Climate Pledge and launching our Local Climate Investment, we’re not just talking about tackling the climate emergency – we’re taking direct, tangible action. The future of our borough depends on all of us working together, and this initiative provides a unique opportunity for our residents, businesses, and community groups to make a meaningful difference.

“Hounslow has long been a leader in sustainability, and this initiative builds on the legacy of our Climate Emergency Action Plan. We’re creating pathways for everyone in our community to get involved, to invest in green projects that will improve our environment, our economy, and the lives of our residents. Together, we can create a greener, fairer, and healthier future for generations to come.”

The Local Climate Investment is designed to support the council’s ambitious Climate Emergency Action Plan and reduce emissions borough-wide. Key areas of focus include:

  • Community renewable energy generation
  • Sustainable travel options
  • Greening Hounslow with open spaces and tree planting
  • Circular economy practices
