Hounslow Council’s Boston Manor House has been awarded Heritage Project of the Year at the Architectural Journal (AJ) Awards.

Hounslow Council secured support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and others, to carefully restore Boston Manor House in a six-year renovation project. The Council worked with architects from Purcell to renovate the house, work that led to Historic England removing it from the heritage at-risk register in 2023.
The 400-year-old manor house, situated in Boston Manor Park, Brentford, opened its doors to the public last year and is now open six days a week and free to visit.
The AJ judges described the restoration of Boston Manor House as a ‘tremendous feat’, adding: “The architects did everything they could do, very thoughtfully. There is a modesty and integrity to it all – revealing the layers of history – and a lot of joy. They’ve spent the money where it mattered and with great attention to detail. In all, this project was in the right hands.”
Boston Manor House and its rich parkland are now popular with local people, many of whom enjoy its walking groups, costumed tours and workshops. The house is also fully accessible with lift access.

“The architect’s experience, creativity and passion for the project created a productive partnership, and an excellent outcome.
“It’s a joy to see the house giving some of the grandiose opulence of years gone by, while also welcoming local people, hosting fun, creative workshops and providing space for local students and an arts organisation to grow and thrive.
“We’re thrilled at the success we’ve made of Boston Manor House and grateful to all our staff and volunteers who help to maintain and breathe life into it every day.”
