Niall Bolger to Step Down from Hounslow Council

Niall Bolger is stepping down from Hounslow Council today after over 36 years of service to local government.

Niall was appointed as the Council’s Chief Executive in  December  2018.  He led the Council through a time of much change, including the Covid-19 pandemic when he secured a strong plan of support for the vulnerable residents of the Borough. 

Niall has always been a strong advocate for regeneration and applied this in  Hounslow including by leading the Council’s Recovery Plan and Community Wealth Strategy. He was passionate about delivering inclusive growth and the strides that the Council made were recognised when Hounslow won the Council of the Year Award in 2021. 

During his time as the Council’s Chief Executive, Niall was a champion on environmental, climate change and sustainability issues and was Lead CEO for Infrastructure and Climate Change for the West London Alliance after having held the Skills, Employment and Regeneration brief. He was lead CEO for Environment and Climate Change for the Chief Executive London Committee, developing London’s Councils’ Climate Change Programme as well as the chairing the national Programme Board for the UK Cities Climate Investment Commission, 3Ci. He chaired the Heathrow Strategic Planning Group Chief Executive Board and he also led the establishment of the London Counter-Terrorism Board. 

Niall was committed to tackling health inequalities. He established and chaired  the Health Equity Board for the NW London ICS, the largest Integrated Care System in the country. In addition, he led the innovative health and care integration programme for the Hounslow Borough Based Partnership. 

Niall was also keenly interested in developing his staff teams and worked with colleagues to develop a set of new values for Council which reflect an inclusive culture in which diversity is key and where staff are empowered to develop solutions and to innovate. 

Cllr Shantanu Rajawat, Leader of the Council said:

He has led the council through considerable change during his tenure with skill, tenacity and good humour. On behalf of all  Members of the Council, I thank him for his service and wish him well in the future. .” 

Niall Bolger said: 

“It has been a privilege to  serve the residents and Members of Hounslow over the last six years. I hope I have contributed in some small part to the prosperity and security of our residents and businesses and ensured the Council is well run and a good partner in the Borough, across London and beyond. I wish all Members and my colleagues the very best for the future.”
