Hounslow to transform local libraries into Community Hubs

Hounslow Council is working to add much-needed services, such as help with work, money, job skills, health, wellbeing, and more, to its libraries’ existing offer. Bringing support, guidance, learning and fun, closer to residents’ doorsteps.

Hounslow Council manages some of the best library access in the country, with everyone in the borough living within 2km of one of its 11 libraries.

Feltham Library is the latest Hounslow library to welcome a new Community Hub. Its existing Thursday hub has proved so popular, the Council is moving its Tuesday Community Hub at Feltham Assembly Hall to Feltham Library, where people will now find it every Tuesday, from 1 to 4pm.

Feltham Library’s high street location sees hundreds of thousands of visitors a year, putting the library in the path of many local people. It offers a broad range of activities, including story and rhymetime, holiday crafts, a book club and English conversation group for adults, and much more

As one of Hounslow’s larger libraries, Feltham already hosts the Council’s adult education team, and Hounslow Citizen’s Advice is next door.

Together, all these services offer local people a broad range of activities, learning, and support to work through anything they feel is holding them back.

Hounslow Council is confident that the high footfall, along with all those who already visit the library, will make its new Tuesday Community Hub accessible to many more local people.

Cllr Ajmer Grewal, Cabinet Member for Residents Support, Communities and Equalities, said

This year, we are bringing our libraries and community hubs together, combining their excellent offers, skills and services, and making them accessible to everyone in Hounslow.

Whether you need space to work, study or simply unwind and connect with other local people, our friendly team can help.

Visit our website for information about existing community hubs, and keep an eye on your local library, which may be hosting one soon.

Cllr Salman Shaheen, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Public Spaces, said

Our libraries already supply a broad range of services beyond the traditional offer, from free digital magazines, films and newspapers, to support with finding work, and looking for a long-lost relative. We have something for everyone.

We look forward to welcoming more community hubs into our libraries, and further expanding our offer to local people, close to home.
