Active spaces
The Active Spaces project aims to encourage children and their families to be more active, promoting usage, community involvement and participation. Four newly refurbished playground sites opened to residents in May 2018. The project includes major refurbishment of new active spaces at St Dunstan's, Hawthorn Hatch, Carville Hall North and Redlees Park. Experienced play designers led 12 design engagements to share designs and sketch ideas with the local community. Events were fun and informative with games and activities for children alongside healthy eating and physical activity advice for families provided by Hounslow's health and wellbeing service, OneYou Hounslow. The project has also engaged local school children through interactive workshops and a fun design competition
Additional funding for fitness trails and playground improvements has been provided by CIL and the London Marathon Trust who have funded a new fitness trail in Inwood Park. Community engagement with residents and stakeholders took place with the view to finding out what would improve the existing space. A questionnaire was available for residents and stakeholders to complete with further onsite engagement activities planned to share ideas and gather views from the local community. Designers carried out community engagement workshops for residents and stakeholders to attend at the following sites.
Refurbishment of Thornbury Park , South Road Rec, Southville (Cage Park) has now completed. New fitness trails will be installed at Inwood and Bedfont Lakes.
